Vehicle Inspections

The Evansville Police Department offers the service of vehicle inspections.  This inspection is required by the Bureau of Motor Vehicle when a vehicle is purchased outside the state of Indiana or if a vehicle is manufactured without a VIN(Vehicle Identification Number).

The city of Evansville charges $5.00 dollars for each inspection.  Checks should be made to THE CITY OF EVANVILLE and given to the officer at the time of the inspection.  Cash is not accepted.

These inspections are conducted 7 days a week, 7:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.  To request an inspection call 911 and tell the dispatcher that you need a VIN check.

Prior to inspection you must have all paperwork for the officer to complete.  Officers do not carry the paperwork that is necessary.  It can be located at any BMV branch or https://forms.in.gov/Download.aspx?id=4998

All salvaged vehicle inspections are done by Indiana State Police and not the Evansville Police department.
