The Auto Theft Unit consists of two investigators that specialize in the investigation and recovery of motorized vehicles. They assist other agencies and share investigative information with surrounding jurisdictions. The unit also assists insurance companies with their claims/investigations.

What is auto theft?
The theft of a passenger vehicle, truck, semi cab, motorcycle, three or four wheeler or a scooter with an engine of 50CC or greater taken without the owner's consent. It should be noted that if an implied consent exists between the owner and the person who took the vehicle, an auto theft report will not be taken.

What if I loan my vehicle to a friend and they don't bring it back in a timely manner?
The victim can report the vehicle to the police. The incident would be considered an unauthorized control of a vehicle. The vehicle description will be dispatched. If the vehicle is located, officers will stop it and attempt to contact the victim. The vehicle will be towed if no contact is made or if the victim is unable to retrieve the vehicle in a timely fashion.
